Hi Craig – Thank you. We will announce pretty soon about a fine gun dealer and an individual who are willing to supply candidate firearms both as donations and also at very reduced prices depending on the circumstances of the individual guns.
Pennsylvania is a FOR PROFIT school and is not a charity, so in the case of Pennsylvania (and likely the rest of the schools) the firearms will need to be donated to the Foundation and then gifted to the school from the foundation so that the owners can claim the 100% charitable tax write off. The sequence of transfer will depend on antique, C&R or modern status of the gun along with corporate firearms ownership in the state of Wisconsin. We expect a firm answer by the end of July on this.
We hope to have TWO ‘Doug Turnbull Restoration Arts Grants next year (2027) and each year after that (one starting and one near completion). So to answer your question YES, we would likely be very interested in any good quality candidate firearm made available either as a donation or at a very reduced price. American guns typical of full restoration will be considered. We have already said no to an L.C. Smith and yes to a Parker. So, I’d say just hang tight right now and thanks.
As I said above once we firm up a few details, we will announce the fine gun dealer and individual willing to supply guns. There are also wood suppliers that are likely to join the cause as well.
The check is on the way right now to Pennsylvania and they will form their team with their August class and will start their project by September 1st. We will have applications available Mid-October for 2027 Grants.
More as it happens
best to all
Dave
