Dave NorinParticipant::Just some FYI — The construction of the upcoming Spring issue had a big hole in the middle of our construction schedule because of the DSC show and being in February rather that January. We needed to hold work and wait for the show to conclude and then in a rush gather info and photos about the show so we could include it.
We tried to get everything in, but somethings were just impossible. For example, the Passing of Al Lind will be covered in the summer issue. I did have a volunteer who offered to write it so we should have a well-done piece for Al.
Anyhow – the spring issue should have been in your mailbox on March 20th or so, but will be delayed by maybe a week or so.
Work is well underway for the summer issue – if you have anything get it to me asap.
more on the summer issue in a bit.

Dave NorinParticipantJust some FYI about Gunmaker –
We hoped that you enjoyed your enlarged (56 pages) Winter issue. The Spring issue (also 56 pages) will soon be in your mailbox. With a bit more advertising we can go to 60 pages.
Now it is going to be up to the membership to keep it going. If you don’t supply material, we will go back to the smaller gunmaker.
A larger Gunmaker will be a draw to new associate members and also will help to pull in existing gunmakers to apply for professional membership. It will help to make the ACGG more prominent in the shooting /collecting/hunting worlds. It will help grow our circulation and ability for advertising to pay for it all.
So it is up to you guys –
Professional members my submit material about their work and shop news and articles about the same.
Professional members and Associate members may submit material such as – customs afield (must be custom guns built by ACGG professional members) — book reviews – tool reviews – product reviews – custom gun world news items – memorials for Professional members passed away.
Submitting material does not guarantee its use.
Great photos with good captions are excellent – How I do things, articles are fine – Detailed articles about technical subjects are always welcome – PROFESIONAL quality photos for our custom gun gallery and covers are good. – multi part articles following the building of a custom gun are excellent – photos and articles about machine set-up are very welcome.
Come on folks – your help is needed to take Gunmaker and the Guild to the next level.
Making your name more prominent will help you to raise your prices.

Steven Dodd HughesParticipantDave, you sure could use a ” PROFESIONAL” proofreader. There are often single mistakes and misspellings that could be easily rectified. Just find a good grammarian, experienced and willing, no gun background required. Pay attention to spellcheck and use the computer dictionary.

Dave NorinParticipantThanks Steve , It is a really good idea that would help create a better product. It might be of interest that this week while proofing the Printers layout, that Gunmaker had TWO page 47’s , one was in the right place, and the other page 47 was in page 37’s spot and page 37 was missing. The PDF layout we submitted to the printer was correct; this big mistake was the result of ‘Professionals’ at the printer’s production office.
Regardless, I am committed to turning out the best gunmaker possible, and your idea has obvious merit
Thanks
Dave

Dave NorinParticipantFYI – The summer issue of Gunmaker is in layout right now – I am working on the FALL issue starting now. The deadline for material is July 15th.
The more that the members of the guild participate in suppling material the better Gunmaker will become
Professional members may supply material about their work, shop, projects et all .
Associates and Professional members may supply material about such things as book reviews, tool reviews, customs afield.
Professional members are invited to advertise via display ads or business card ads.

Dave NorinParticipantRIGHT NOW – I am gathering material and working on the FALL issue of GUNMAKER . Professional members are invited to send in material about their custom work and shop projects, bench and machine work etc.
Everyone is invited to include ‘Custom’s Afield’ of critters taken with custom guns (ACGG members work preferred). Book and tool reviews, sources of supply, business and promotion tips.
It may be time for ACGG Professional members to begin to include business card advertisements or even print ads in our magazine.
Deadlines are in the magazine – but Gunmaker is assembled on a first sent in first included basis. Making the deadline does not guarantee that your work will be included in the next up issue. Get your material to me ASAP.

Dave NorinParticipantSo, I’ll let you all know that I am retiring as editor of Gunmaker. It has been a very great honor and I want to thank the entire Guild. John Todd has just completed the Fall issue and will be taking over as the new editor. He and I worked well together, and I am sure Gunmaker will be in good hands. Please support John by sending him a bunch of material.
